Helpful Hints for Textbook Adoptions and Course Materials

Library Resources: Check the Library selection! Information found on the Library website is already available to Faculty and Students and can save students and the University money. You can even place links in your blackboard course for students to have one-click access to the articles you want them to read. Find library resources here: http://www.lib.ku.edu and choose the link to the Information Gateway with ejournals, databases of articles and more. If you need help making a link work for you within your Blackboard course contact the Ask-A-Librarian service http://www.lib.ku.edu/askalibrarian/.
If you do not find what you are looking for on the Library website, the Textbook Dept at the KU Bookstores would be happy to work with you to put together a course pack and make sure that all copyright requirements are satisfied.

Custom Course Packs:
If you do not find the information you need from the KU Libraries ejournals or want only portions of a textbook, we can work with you to put together a custom course pack. We will make sure that all copyrights have been approved for you. We will also double-check the Library e-journal holdings to make sure that your students do not have to pay for materials that are available to them for free. View more Custom Publishing information in this online brochure. You may also download a Custom Course Request Form here.

Bundles:
When considering a bundle please evaluate the cost and necessity of the units in the bundle. If only one item in the bundle is required, it would be best to adopt each item individually with one as required and the rest as optional. Adopting the entire bundle as a required text creates frustration for students when they only want to purchase the one mandatory item. It also prevents the bookstore from offering used copies at a discounted price to students.

Adoption Deadlines:
Adopting your textbooks by the semester deadlines allows the bookstore to have them in stock and shelved for your students before the first day of classes. It also allows us to purchase books from the students at buyback time for a higher value and increases the number of lower cost textbooks for your next semester students.
