Doctorate Hood

It is the candidate's responsibility to obtain the correct regalia. Please contact the conferring department with any additional questions regarding tassel/hood color and degree.

PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) = Royal Blue Velvet regardless of discipline.

If you are receiving a PhD in any field, your hood should have the royal blue velvet.
If you are receiving a doctoral degree other than a PhD, the velvet color should be as follows:

• Arts (DARTS - Speech, Language and Hearing; Audiology) = White
• Education (EdD) = Light Blue
• Engineering (DE Only) = Orange(DE only. All other Engineering doctoral degrees receive PhD Blue)
• Juris (JD) = Purple
• Dr. of Juridical Science (SJD)= Royal Blue (order PhD Royal Hood)
• LLM = Purple (same as JD hood)
• Medicine (MD) = Green
• Music = Pink
• Nurse Practitioner (DNP) = Apricot
• Occupational Therapy (DOT) = Ink
• Pharmacy = Olive
• Physical Therapy (DPT) = Teal
• Doctor of Social Work (DSW) = Citron
